Welcome Farmer Anna Elbon to Phillies Bridge Farm!!!

Phillies Bridge Farm Project welcomes farmer Anna Elbon, who comes to us from Kentucky and Tennessee, by way of Montreal (Quebec) and New Hampshire. Anna is a graduate of McGill University’s Macdonald Campus Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (“Mac”), where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, with an Ecological Agriculture specialization.   This was followed by two years of research and organic farming in an active hub of organic farms on the west island of Montreal, providing for her “a pivotal moment” in farming.  She gained a foundation on a small farm where she could make an impact and work with great mentors.  Then a fellow graduate of “Mac” lured Anna to Picadilly Farm in Winchester, NH, an 800-shareholder CSA serving Boston, Southern New Hampshire and Vermont.  Anna was Picadilly’s Weeder Crew Leader.

On January 12th, 2015 Anna Elbon brought this experience to Phillies Bridge Farm, where her goals are “to provide high quality produce to shareholders and create a link between individuals and their food system.”  She is also very interested in using farms as “a learning lab for colleges and research institutions,” and in promoting research and coursework in organic agriculture.

Growing up in Appalachia, Anna and her siblings were home schooled until high school by parents who are both professional teachers and musicians.  In the regional culture of Nashville and Appalachia, Anna became an “old time American traditional musician.”  She plays fiddle, mandolin and guitar, has begun writing songs, and is “passionate about square dancing and contra dancing.”  E-mail Anna at anna@philliesbridge.org.

Located on 65 scenic acres in the Hudson Valley of New York State, Phillies Bridge Farm Project is a working farm that connects people to their food and the land by running education programs, growing food for the community, and sharing part of the harvest with people in need.
