Week 1 started out with a new group of super enthusiastic and energetic counselors, and some new campers as well as many familiar faces! We had a great time getting to know each other and learning about the farm’s new animals and additions to our gardens!
Day 1 of Fun in the Sun week was a little rainy, but that didn’t stop us from making beautiful sun catchers out of natural materials. Rainy days are the best days at Phillies, and the kids were quick to grab an opportunity to play in the rain!
We continued our week with a discussion of the relationship between time and shadows, and enjoyed creating some hilarious shadow art and beautiful cyanotype prints. It’s always amazing to see the children’s personalities shine in their artwork.
We had some fun later in the week exploring ultraviolet radiation, and observing it first hand with UV beads, which we turned into color-changing art. They also glow in the dark, and we hope you had some fun with these at home!
As always, we had a blast playing games together and just hanging out on the farm. On our last day of the week, we finished up with a Phillies Bridge musical talent show and a children’s farmers market, showcasing the harvest from our education and discovery gardens! Thanks to all our families for your attendance and support!
We had a great first week getting settled in for the summer, and enjoying some light (haha) learning and the start of a super fun summer vacation! Thank you for sharing your children with us!
